The UK Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) index coding is a system that is used to categorize and classify different occupations in the UK. By way of example below is a search for "Electrician" and "Physiotherapist":







From the search results we can see that Electrician has a SOC of 5241 and that Physiotherapist has a SOC code of 2221. You can try it yourself:


Once you have your SOC code you can then check to see if the code qualifies for either a skilled visa or a health and care work visa on the gov.uk website. We can see that SOC code 5421 does qualify under the skilled worker visa:
